The multi-million pound redevelopment of the Sheaf and Harmer buildings for the faculty of ACES in Sheffield City Center was completed in summer 2008.

With the complete renovation of five floors of teaching space including engineering workshops, art space, computer suites, editing suits, dark rooms, sound and video recording, the project was an excellent opportunity to develop our in-depth faculty liaison skills. The project was a resounding success, and enabled us to become one of the University´s preferred consultants.

The dark room ventilation project, though not massive in terms of capitol cost, was a very interesting engineering challenge.

With numerous colour and black and white darkrooms it was crucial to the safe operation of the facility to provide adequate ventilation. The numerous toxic gases present in the rooms pose a significant health risk, so our ventilation design, linked with the fire alarm system, gives staff and students the confidence to work in this enclosed area.
